Clemson, S.C. - Against a small but tough field, Miami's women's track and field team placed fourth Saturday, April 6 at the Clemson Invitational with 72 points. Purdue won the meet with 178 points, followed closely by Clemson, which finished with 172.50. Although the RedHawks did not have an individual winner, several outstanding performances were turned in.

Sophomore Lauren Collins (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence Central) led the way for the field-eventers, posting a third-place finish in the hammer (167-0) and a fourth in the shot put (46-10 1/4). Her mark in the shot is a personal best by almost a foot and the third-best toss this season in the Mid-American Conference, while her hammer mark is the fifth best in the conference.

Passing a supreme test of stamina, freshman Meredith Magsig (Elmore, Ohio/Woodmore) ran the 3,000 steeplechase and 5,000, placing third in the former and fourth in the latter.

Sophomore Bernitta Johnson (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./GAR Memorial) was all over the place as usual, taking third in the triple jump (38-10), sixth in the long jump (17-2) and seventh in the 100 (12.81) while also helping the 4x100 relay to a fourth-place finish (49.81).

Junior Kylee Studer (Edgerton, Ohio/Edgerton) and sophomore Jenny Korrison (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) came in second and third in the 1,500 in personal-best times of 4:41.67 and 4:41.69, respectively, while sophomore Erin Connolly (Springfield, Ohio/Shawnee) just missed winning the 100 hurdles, finishing second in 14.51, .02 seconds behind the winner, Clemson's Lauren Nicholson.

The RedHawks and 11 other schools compete at this Saturday's Miami Invitational. Field events begin at 10:30 a.m. while competition on the track gets underway at 1 p.m.
