The Miami women's track and field team won the Clemson Invitational at the Rock Norman Track Complex when it edged Clemson University 140 points to 139 points on Saturday afternoon. Appalachian State placed third with 114 points, Iowa State was fourth with 88 points, Charlotte recorded 61.75 points and East Carolina finished with 41.25 points.

The fastest first-place finish for Miami came in the 100-meter hurdles with junior Erin Connolly (Springfield, Ohio/Shawnee) beating out the field with a 0:14.09 time.

Miami's best running event took place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase when junior Andrea Kremer (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard) earned the top spot in 10:59.89 with teammate Sarah Bertolini (Canton, Ohio/St. Thomas Aquinas) right behind her for second. Kremer also took second in the 1,500-meter hurdles when she finished four seconds behind an Iowa State runner with a time of 4:37.69.

The Red and White runners also looked strong in the 5,000-meter run. Freshman Kelly Ardelean (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville) took second in 19:55.40 while senior Kate Steffen (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park) finished in fifth place to earn eight and two points, respectively.

In the 400-meter hurdles, Miami also had two runners place in the top five. Sophomore Katie Dyer (Merrillville, Ind./Merrillville) and junior Jennifer Caldwell (Sabina, Ohio/East Clinton) placed third and fifth to add six and two points to the RedHawk's overall score and continue its consistent pursuit of the overall first place crown.

The RedHawks were also extremely strong in the field events. Junior Lindsay Hazen (Canton, Ohio/Massillon Jackson) placed third in the high jump with a 5'05" height.

In the pole vault, sophomore Tabitha Schwartz (Concord, Va./Appomatox) tied for second with an Appalachian State vaulter as she jumped a height of 11'06.25" to give Miami seven more overall points.

Finally, Lauren Collins (Indianapolis, Ind/Lawrence Central) scored the most points of any RedHawk on Saturday when she earned two first-place finishes and one second-place finish. Collins earned the top mark in the women's shot put when her throw measured out at 46'02" to give Miami 10 points. Collins also earned the maximum amount of points in the hammer throw when she was the top college thrower to finish with a 170'07" mark. In the discus throw, Collins was beat out by an Iowa State thrower, but she was able to earn second with a 153'09" mark.

Miami will look to continue the momentum next weekend as they host the Miami Invitational on Saturday.
