MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Junior Kelley Miller earned 14 points for the Miami University women's track and field team Saturday at Jack Skoog Indoor Track, including winning the league title in the mile run, to help the RedHawks finish fourth at the Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships, hosted by Central Michigan.

Miami totaled 79.5 points while Kent State won the MAC title with 107 points. The host Chippewas finished as the runner-up with 100 points while Western Michigan placed third with 92 points. The 'Hawks bettered the 73 points they scored a year ago at the indoor league meet despite finishing a place lower (Miami tied for third in 2009).

Miller (Dublin, Ohio), the school's record holder in the mile, won the mile run final on Saturday in 4:58.42, to earn 10 points for the RedHawks while senior Amanda Mirochna (Naperville, Ill.) crossed in fifth in the race in 5:03.44 to grab an extra four points for Miami. Miller also finished fifth in the 800-meter final in 2:17.35 to pick up another four points in the team standings. Miller and Mirochna also helped the 'Hawks win the distance medley relay on Friday at the MAC Championships.

In the 3000m, redshirt sophomore Rachel Patterson (Rochester, Mich.) finished third in 10:00.62 to garner six points while senior Laura Neufarth (Centerville, Ohio) was fifth in 10:07.21 for an extra four points. Freshman Layne Baggett (Pittsburgh, Pa.) took fourth in the 60-meter hurdles finals in 8.72 seconds to pick up five points for the 'Hawks while sophomore Rachael Clay (Rossford, Ohio) placed fifth in the 400m final in 57.12 for four points, as well.

Miami then picked up four points in the shot put as sophomore Alexandra Roberts (Hilliard, Ohio) placed sixth with a heave of 47-11 (14.60m) while fellow sophomore Samantha Gable (Greenfield, Ind.) finished eighth with a personal-best toss of 46-7.5 (14.21m).

Senior Nicki Mitchell (Lake Forest, Ill.), who scored 13 points for the RedHawks Friday, tied for sixth in the high jump with a leap of 5-4.5 (1.64m) for another 2.5 points. Sophomore Sarah Kinnaman (Carmel, Ind.) picked up a point in the pole vault by matching her personal-best vault of 11-5.75 (3.50m) to place eighth while junior Hope Alexander (Wilmington, Del.) also earned a point with an eighth-place finish in the triple jump with a season-best leap of 38-10.25 (11.84m).

Miami then closed the Championships on the track by placing sixth in 4x400m relay in 3:55.76 for three points.

The RedHawks compete in their final indoor meet before the NCAA Championships at the Alex Wilson Invitational, hosted by Notre Dame, March 5-6.
