Miami's women's indoor track and field team ended day one of the Mid-American Championships in eighth place at the Kent State Fieldhouse on Friday.

The RedHawks currently stand nearly 24 points behind the leader, Central Michigan, with the majority of the running events scheduled for Saturday beginning at 10:30 a.m.

Sophomore Tabitha Schwartz (Concord, Va./Appomatox) was the first to get Miami on the board by earning 3.5 points for her fifth place finish in the pole vault with an 11'3.75" jump.

Junior Lauren Collins (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence Central) scored six points for Miami when she had a weighted throw score of 61'09.75" for third place. Collins throw was her lifetime best and a new Miami record.

In the women's distance medley, Miami gave a season best time of 11:48.81 for fourth place and five points added to the RedHawk's overall score.

Also on Friday, many Red and White runners participated in prelim races to qualify for the finals, which will be run on Saturday. A Miami highlight came when junior Erin Connolly (Springfield, Ohio/Shawnee) took the top mark in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 0:08.53.
