MUNCIE, Ind. - Miami's women's indoor track and field team took second place Saturday, Feb. 16 at the Ball State Triangular in Muncie, Ind., nudging past Western Michigan, 91-89, but falling to the host Cardinals, 120-91. Four RedHawks took home victories at the meet.

That quartet was headed by sophomore Andrea Kremer (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard), who won the mile in a BSU Field Sports Building-record time of 4:57.33. In the shot put, sophomore Lauren Collins (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence Central) moved into second place on Miami's all-time indoor list with her winning heave of 46-6 3/4. Freshman Tabitha Schwartz (Concord, Va./Appomatox) continued to show she will be a force to be reckoned with in the Mid-American Conference for a long time to come, taking first in the pole vault by clearing 11-0. Rounding out the RedHawk winners was sophomore Erin Connolly (Springfield, Ohio/Shawnee), who edged her teammate, freshman Katie Dyer (Merrillville, Ind./Merrillville), in the 55-meter hurdles, 8.33 to 8.34.

Collins also came in third in the 20-pound weight throw with a toss measuring 51-5 1/2.

Also making solid showings were sophomore Erika Harper (Bedford, Ohio/Bedford), who finished second in the 55 (7.21) and third in the 200 (25.41), sophomore Bernitta Johnson (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./GAR Memorial), who leapt 40-0 1/2 in the triple jump, fourth best this season the MAC, to place runner-up, and Miami's only other runner-up on the day, junior Brienne Wade (Papillon, Neb./LaVista), who cleared 10-6 in the pole vault.

 

 

The RedHawks gear up this week for the Mid-American Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, which are to be held Feb. 22-23 in Bowling Green, Ohio.
