BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Miami's women's indoor track and field team took second place Saturday at the All-Ohio Championships at Bowling Green. The RedHawks amassed 94 points, four less than the victorious Falcons and five more than third-place Akron.

Sophomores Andrea Kremer (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard) and Bernitta Johnson (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./GAR Memorial) were event-winners for Miami. Kremer took first in the 3,000, crossing the finish line in a Mid-American Conference-season-best time of 9:40.00, just 1.45 seconds off the school mark and two seconds slower than the NCAA Provisional Qualifying time. She also finished runner-up in the mile, getting nipped at the finish line by Cincinnati's Angie Kist, 4:54.82 to 4:55.58. Her time in that event is also the fastest this season in the conference.

In winning the triple jump, Johnson soared 39-1 1/4, fifth best in the MAC this season.

Finishing runner-up for the RedHawks were freshman Tabitha Schwartz (Appomatox, Va./Appomatox), who upped her school record in the pole vault to 11-0 3/4, and the distance medley relay team, which came in with a 12:22.93 clocking.

Redshirt sophomore Kristen Fryburg (Kettering, Ohio/Alter) also set a school record, in the 5,000 with a time of 17:16.84, en route to placing third in the event. The previous mark of 17:20.51, held by Michelle Slykhuis, had stood for 17 years.

In the 60-meter high hurdles, sophomores Jennifer Caldwell (Sabina, Ohio/East Clinton) and Erin Connolly (Springfield, Ohio/Shawnee), took third and fourth, respectively, in 8.88 and 8.95.

Miami's stalwart in the throws, sophomore Lauren Collins (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence Central) placed third in the 20-pound weight with a mark of 57-2 3/4 and fifth in the shot put, heaving it 46-0, fourth best this season in the MAC.

 

 

The team squares off Feb. 15 against Ball State and Western Michigan in Muncie, Ind.
