SOUTH BEND, Ind. -
For the second straight day and third time in two weekends, the Miami University women's track and field team witnessed a school record being broken, as senior Amanda Mirochna set a new standard in the 3000m run Saturday on the final day of the Meyo Invitational, hosted by Notre Dame. Redshirt sophomore Rachel Patterson (Rochester, Mich.) set the school record in the 5000m run Friday at the Meyo Invite in 16:40.13.
Mirochna (Naperville, Ill.) placed 12th in the 3000m run in 9:31.98, eclipsing Tricia Roddy's record of 9:38.55, which was set in 1999. The senior's time also earned her an NCAA provisional qualifying time, joining junior Kelley Miller (Dublin, Ohio) in the mile and Patterson in the 5000m as RedHawks with provisional marks this season.
Miller, who set the school record in the mile last weekend in 4:46.57, placed seventh the mile run Saturday in 4:49.84, just over five ticks behind Kansas' Lauren Bonds, who took first.
Senior Margarita Pogorelov (Bat Yam, Israel) took sixth in the 60-meter dash finals in a Miami season-best 7.57 seconds, after qualifying for the final 12 in a field of 63, as Southern Mississippi's Chastity Riggien won in 7.39. Pogorelov also took 18th in the 200-meter dash in another Miami season-best time of 25.09 while sophomore Diona Graves (Fenton, Mo.) placed 21st in a season-best 25.18, which makes her sixth on Miami's all-time performers list in the event.
In the 400m, sophomore Rachael Clay (Rossford, Ohio) placed 13th in a season-best 56.12, which is the third-fastest time in RedHawk history. Junior Katie Lenahan (Cincinnati, Ohio) finished 22nd in the 800m run in a Miami season-best 2:12.26, which is the sixth-fastest time in Miami history, as Carrie Alexander set the top-five times in 1998.
Freshman
Layne Baggett (Pittsburgh, Pa.) ran a Miami season-best 8.91 in the 60-meter hurdles prelims, just missing the finals, as she placed 14th (the top 12 made the finals). Meanwhile, Miami's 4x400m relay team took 17th in a season-best 3:50.94, as Illinois won the relay in 3:39.83.
Seniors Nicki Mitchell (Lake Forest, Ill.) and Kristen Mathews (Griffith, Ind.) each reached season-best marks in the high jump, as they both cleared 5-5 (1.65m), while junior Hope Alexander (Wilmington, Del.) placed 18th in the triple jump with a Miami season-best leap of 38-6.75 (11.75m).
