OXFORD, Ohio - Miami's women's track and field team won the Bowling Green Quint meet Saturday afternoon as three RedHawks took top honors in their respective events. Sophomores Andrea Kremer (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard) and Bernitta Johnson (Wilkes Barre, Pa./GAR Memorial) won the 3,000-meter run and triple jump, respectively, while redshirt sophomore Kristen Fryburg (Kettering, Ohio/Alter) took first in the 5,000.

Miami scored 157 points, Bowling Green 138, Akron 129, Detroit Mercy 79 and Northern Illinois 61.

Kremer finished in a time of 9:52.07, lowering her personal best by almost 9.5 seconds and moving into second place on Miami's all-time list. She also finished runner-up in the mile, as she was nipped by Detriot Mercy's Ruthie Cook, 4:58.99 to 4:59.89. Johnson's mark of 37-1 bested the 36-7 of Akron's Kira Sims. Fryburg not only ran the second-fastest indoor 5,000 in school history, crossing the finish line in 17:28.05, she also beat her next closest competitor by more than 52 seconds.

Other noteworthy performances were second-place finishes by redshirt sophomore Erika Harper (Bedford, Ohio/Bedford), in the 200, junior Sara Edwards (Kettering, Ohio/Alter), in the 800, sophomore Jennifer Caldwell (Sabina, Ohio/East Clinton), in the 60-meter low hurdles, freshman Tabitha Schwartz (Appomatox, Va./Appomatox), in the pole vault, and sophomore Lauren Collins (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence Central), in the 20-pound weight throw. Collins tied her own school record with a toss of 54-5.5.

 

 

The RedHawks travel to Indianapolis, Ind. on Saturday, Jan. 26 for the Stan Lyons Invitational.
