CINCINNATI, Ohio - Behind the record-setting performances of freshman Tabitha Schwartz (Appomatox, Va./Appomatox) and junior Brienne Wade (Papillon, Neb.), Miami's women's indoor track and field team finished second out of four teams Friday at the University of Cincinnati's Armory Fieldhouse. The Redhawks finished with 145 points, while the Bearcats won the event by amassing 151. Ohio came in third with 110 and Dayton took fourth with 72.
Both women broke the existing school record of 10-0, held by Sharon Poisson '00 and Wade, in the indoor pole vault and finished 1-2 in the event. Schwartz set a new Miami mark by clearing 10-6, while Wade broke her own standard with a vault of 10-3.
Also in the field events, sophomore Bernitta Johnson (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./GAR Memorial) won the triple jump with a mark of 37-6.75, sophomore Lauren Collins (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence Central) finished runner-up in the shot put with a toss of 41-11.25, senior Marie Mokosso (St. Paul, Minn./Mounds View) and sophomore Kristi Norris (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard) placed second and third, respectively, in the 20-pound weight throw and freshman LaRissa Foster (Hazelwood, Mo./Hazelwood) took third in the triple jump (35-10.5).
The RedHawks had a couple of winners on the track as well, as junior Sara Edwards (Kettering, Ohio/Alter) was victorious in the 800-meter run (2:22.75) and sophomore Andrea Kremer (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard) outclassed the competition in the 3,000 (10:01.56), defeating the runner-up by almost 16 seconds. Kremer, however, was edged in the mile run by the Bearcats' Angie Kist, 5:04.77 to 5:05.03.
