Five Miami women's tennis players earned invitations to the Wilson/ITA Midwest Regional held Oct. 23-28 in East Lansing, Mich.
"I'm very pleased to have five of our seven current scholarship players earn a spot in this tournament," said head coach Howard Joffe. "This is one of the strongest tournaments in the Midwest."
Two RedHawks--sophomore Anastasia Dracheva and freshman Stephanie Danesis--are in the singles main draw, while junior Brintney Larson, sophomore Megan Martzolf and freshman Riekie Honiball will participate in singles qualifying.
Both doubles teams also will compete in the main draw. Danesis and Martzolf will team up, while Honiball and Larson will be Miami's other doubles team at the Wilson/ITA Midwest Regional.
"I thought getting three in last year was good but getting five in this year is a step in the right direction," said Joffe. "We need to go and play and see how we do, but I'm thrilled to have this many players representing Miami at the tournament."
The RedHawks are coming off a strong showing at the Midland Invitational Oct. 10-12 with Dracheva and Danesis each advancing to the round of 16 in singles and the teams of Danesis/Martzolf and Dracheva/Honiball each advancing to the doubles quarterfinals.
