Miami University's women's tennis team heads to Richmond, Va., and then to College Park, Md., for a pair of matches this week. The RedHawks will play at Virginia Commonwealth University at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 28 and play at Maryland at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 1.
The matches are amidst a nine-match road stretch for the RedHawks. Last week, the RedHawks started their lengthy road stretch at Marshall. Freshman Megan Martzolf won her match at No. 2 singles against Karolina Soor. Martzolf lost the first set but came back strong with 6-1 and 6-3 victories. Martzolf scored Miami's only point.
Two other RedHawks who pushed their matches to three-sets against the Thundering Herd were senior Kelly Douple and freshman Cara Wald. Douple lost her first set but dominated the second with a 6-0 win. She was edged 5-7 by Marshall's Jeanne Schwartz in the third set. Wald also lost her first set and won her second, but she was defeated 1-6 in her third set against Thaddea Lock.
Last week's loss halted a six-match winning streak for the RedHawks. Miami had picked up five 7-0 wins during that stretch.
After a match at Wisconsin on March 15, Miami begins Mid-American Conference play at Ball State on March 22.
