CLEVELAND--After posting a perfect weekend at No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles and helping Miami University's women's tennis team to a pair of dominant 7-0 wins against Butler and Dayton, RedHawk freshman Anastasia Dracheva was named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday (Jan. 30).
Dracheva moved to 3-0 on the season at No. 1 singles with a pair of wins last weekend. A week after earning Miami's only point with a win at No. 1 singles against nationally-ranked Indiana, the freshman pounded out a 6-0, 6-0 blanking of Butler's Natalie Jaimes on Jan. 26 and came back the following day to hammer Dayton's Allysa Detroy 6-1, 6-0.
In addition to her wins at No. 1 singles, Dracheva paired up with fellow freshman Megan Martzolf at No. 2 doubles to claim an 8-6 win against Butler and manufacture an 8-0 blanking of Dayton's No. 2 doubles team.
This is the first weekly MAC honor of Dracheva's career and the first for a RedHawk this season
Last weekend's wins against Butler and Dayton propelled Miami to a 2-1 mark on the season. The RedHawks host Cincinnati at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 3 at the Riverside Racquet Club in Hamilton, Ohio.
