KALAMAZOO, Mich. - At the Mid-American Conference Women's Tennis Fall Tournament, Miami University's senior Erica Echko (Dayton, Ohio/Centerville) won the Flight 5 singles for the RedHawks. She was the lone champion for Miami. Sophomore Megan Zimpfer (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) advanced to the Flight 6 championship, but fell in the finals. There was no team scoring to the event.
Echko downed Western Michigan's Brookley Crews 6-2, 6-1 in the championship, after topping Eastern Michigan's Shari Gamarnik 7-6, 7-5 in the first round and Ball State's Kara Sullivan 7-6, 7-5 in the second round.
Zimpfer thwarted Toledo's Eva Szuch 6-0, 6-1 in the first round and Ball State's Susan Kelley 6-4, 6-1 in the second round. She dropped a 7-6 (9), 6-0 decision to WMU's Valeria Stoilova in the finals.
Senior Kadija Richards (St. Andrew, Jamaica/Campion College) won the consolation bracket of the Flight 1 singles. She fell to eventual champion Lisa D'Amelio from Eastern Michigan in the first round and then went on to inch out a 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 win over Bowling Green's Devon Bissinger and a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 triumph over Toledo's Viviana Rivera in the final of the consolations bracket.
Senior Catherine Dilley (Fremont, Neb./Fremont) fell in the championship of the Flight 3 consolation bracket, while she and Zimpfer were topped in the consolation bracket championship of Flight 1 doubles.
This concludes Miami's fall season. The RedHawks return to the courts in January.
