YPSILANTI, Mich.--Behind a 5-2 win at Eastern Michigan on Saturday, April 5, Miami University's women's tennis team extended its win streak to five straight, all coming in Mid-American Conference play.
The RedHawks (11-5; 5-0 MAC), who finished a lengthy nine-match road stretch with Saturday's win, are off to their best league start since the 1998-99 team went 9-0 in the MAC. The Eagles dropped to 6-12 overall and 2-3 in league play.
Miami swept doubles play to pick up the first point of the match. Sophomore Brintney Larson and freshman Anastasia Dracheva tallied an 8-2 win against EMU's Vanessa Frankowski and Catharina Bestehorn at No. 1 doubles. Senior Leda Pesatova and freshman Sydnee Bridger posted an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles against EMU's Sandra Wikstrom and Aleksandra Stankovic, while senior Kelly Douple and freshman Megan Martzolf captured an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles against Aditi Krishnan and Joanna Woo (EMU).
Larson edged Krishnan in a three-set win at No. 2 doubles. After dropping the first set, 4-6, Larson came back with 7-5, 7-5 wins in the next two sets to earn the victory and improve to 5-0 in MAC play. Pesatova notched a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 3 singles over EMU's Bestehorn. Douple moved to 5-0 in MAC action with a 6-4, 6-4 win in the fourth flight against EMU's Wikstrom, while Pulido earned a 6-2, 6-3 win against Woo at No. 6 singles to improve to 3-0 in league action.
Eastern Michigan earned its two points of the match at No. 1 and No. 5 singles. Stankovic defeated Bridger in the fifth flight, 6-1, 6-0, while Frankowski outlasted Miami's Dracheva in three sets, 6-0, 3-6, 6-4 at No. 1 singles.
