AKRON, Ohio--With another 7-0 win, Miami University's women's tennis team improved to 8-5 on the season and 2-0 in Mid-American Conference action after defeating the University of Akron on Friday afternoon. The win was the second straight 7-0 win for the RedHawks and their seventh of the season, the most for a Miami team in a season since going to a seven-point format.
Miami picked up the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Freshman Anastasia Dracheva and sophomore Brintney Larson topped Akron's Tanyaradzwa Gombera and Lindsey Berry 8-2 at No. 1 doubles, while senior Leda Pesatova and freshman Sydnee Bridger collected an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles against Alyssa Carlson and Carolina Castro Cota.
Dracheva remained undefeated on the season with a 6-1, 6-1 win against Gombera at No. 1 singles. Dracheva is 9-0 on the season, all at No. 1 singles. Larson pulled out a three-set win at No. 2 singles against Castro Cota. Castro Cota won the first set, 6-4, before Larson came back to even things up with a 6-1 win in the second set. Larson took the pro-set 1-0 (10-7) to move to 8-5 this season, including 7-2 at No. 2 singles.
In the third flight, Pesatova breezed through with 6-1 and 6-0 wins against Berry, while senior Kelly Douple notched a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles against Akron's Jeremie Benjamin. Bridger posted a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles against Carlson, and senior Victoria Pulido notched a 6-4, 6-0 win against Akron's Kerry Langworth.
Miami continues a two-match weekend swing amidst a nine-match road stretch when the RedHawks play at Buffalo on Saturday, March 29. Match time has been moved to 2 p.m.
