MUNCIE, Ind.--For the sixth time this season, Miami University's women's tennis team recorded a dominant 7-0 win, downing Ball State University on Saturday afternoon in Muncie, Ind., in the Mid-American Conference opener for both teams.
It is the most 7-0 wins for the RedHawks since the 2003-04 team won six matches by a 7-0 margin.
Miami won at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to capture the doubles point. Freshman Anastasia Dracheva and sophomore Brintney Larson defeated BSU's Jennifer Pollack and Haly Calderwood 8-4 at No. 1 doubles, while freshmen Megan Martzolf and Cara Wald topped BSU's Sophie Quist and Georgina Thompson, 8-3 at No. 2 doubles. The Cardinals posted their lone win of the day at No. 3 double in an 8-4 win.
The RedHawks swept through singles action. Dracheva remained undefeated at No. 1 single and improved to 8-0 on the season with a 6-4, 6-2 win against BSU's Quist. Larson topped Calderwood 6-1, 6-4 in the second flight.
Senior Leda Pesatova hammered out a 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3 singles, while Wald captured a 6-2, 6-0 win in the fourth flight. Senior Kelly Douple won at No. 5 singles 6-3, 6-2. After dropping her first set 4-6, freshman Sydnee Bridger came back to post dominant 6-1, 6-3 scores en route to a three-set win at No. 6 singles.
Additionally, senior Victoria Pulido faced Katherine Rist in an exhibition match and topped Rist 8-6.
Miami continues a nine-match road stretch at Akron on March 28 and at Buffalo on March 29. Both match times are set for 1 p.m.
