Final Stats

MILWAUKEE, Wisc. -- Miami dropped two key tiebreakers in its women's tennis match Wednesday, sending the RedHawks to a 5-2 loss at Marquette. The loss ended a streak of back-to-back sweeps last week.

The teams split the first two doubles matches with Brintney Larson and Anastasia Dracheva winning 8-1 at No. 2. Stephanie Danesis and Megan Martzolf dropped their match at No. 1 by an 8-4 count, leaving Riekie Honiball and Cara Wald to take the point. The RedHawk duo pushed the set to a tiebreaker, but fell 10-4 in the final game to lose 9-8.

Marquette (9-6) quickly came out in singles to clinch the match. The Golden Eagles won matches at No. 6 (Wald), No. 5 (Larson) and No. 2 (Danesis) to open a 4-0 lead before Dracheva put Miami on the board with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 2.

After Honiball lost 6-4, 7-6 in the No. 5 match, Martzolf fought off a tough opponent, winning 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 1-0 (10-7). Martzolf improved to her record to 8-0 in dual matches this spring.

Miami returns to action next week with a return trip to the Badger State. The RedHawks face Wisconsin next Sunday.
