COLLEGE PARK, Md.--In a close 4-3 match, Miami University's women's tennis team (6-4) was edged by Maryland (3-6) on Saturday morning. The RedHawks' three points came at No. 2, No. 4 and No. 5 singles.

Freshman Megan Martzolf bounced back from a 3-6 loss in the first set to pound out solid 6-3, 6-3 wins in the next two sets to defeat Maryland's Karin Lundmark at No. 2 singles.

Freshman Cara Wald also won a three-set match. Wald suffered a 3-6 loss in the first set but came back with a 6-2 win in the second set and outlasted Maryland's Julia Huschke in the third set 7-5 to pick up the win at No. 4 singles. This was Wald's first appearance at No. 4 singles.

Senior Kelly Douple won at No. 5 singles. She lost her first set 3-6 but was winning the second set 5-3 before Elenor Peters retired to give Douple the win.

Miami also picked up one win in doubles play with Douple and senior Leda Pesatova producing an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles, but the Terrapins' wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles gave them the doubles point.

Miami continues a nine-match road stretch and plays its final non-conference match when it travels to Wisconsin for a 2 p.m. (CT) match on March 15.
