OXFORD, Ohio--With another dominant 7-0 win, Miami University's women's tennis team won its sixth straight match and moved to 6-1 on the season, defeating local foe Xavier University (7-3) on Sunday evening.
The RedHawks have captured five of their six wins by 7-0 margins, including their last two triumphs.
Miami started off the match with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to earn the doubles point. Sophomore Brintney Larson and freshman Cara Wald moved to 5-1 at No. 1 doubles with an 8-3 win against XU's Kara Courtney and Jeanette Feider. Senior Kelly Douple and freshman Megan Martzolf picked up an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles for the RedHawks.
The Red and White swept singles play. Larson notched a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles, while Martzolf posted a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles and senior Leda Pesatova pounded out a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles.
Douple won the first set in the fourth flight, 6-4, but Xavier's Jill Ducro evened things up with a 6-3 win in the second set. Douple, however, pulled out the 10-6 pro-set tiebreaker to earn the win.
Wald captured a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles. Seeing her first singles action of the season, freshman Sydnee Bridger outlasted Fieder in the sixth flight to complete the singles sweep. Bridger battled back from a 6-4 loss in the first set to post a 7-5 win in the second set and captured the pro-set tiebreaker 10-3.
The RedHawks hit the road to face former Mid-American Conference rival Marshall at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23.
