Player Profile

Position:
Head Coach

Experience:
12th Year

Ray Reppert is in his 12th year at the helm of Miami University's women's tennis program, extending the longest tenure by a head coach in program history. A three-time Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year, Reppert is the winningest coach in Miami women's tennis history and has guided the program to two MAC titles.

In 2005, Reppert's RedHawks, led by an arsenal of young talent and Reppert's steady guidance, rebounded from a down season to post a 6-3 league record, including a key five-match winning streak late in the season. The fourth-seeded Red and White proceeded to advance to the semifinal round of the MAC Tournament for the eighth time in Reppert's 10 postseason appearances before bowing out to eventual MAC Champion Marshall.

Miami extended its string of consecutive MAC Semifinal appearances to three last season, while placing two individuals on the all-MAC teams.

Reppert, who is entering his 20th season as an NCAA Division I head coach, came to Miami from William and Mary and has an overall dual meet coaching record of 242-174 (.582). Since joining the Miami program, he has compiled a 132-119 mark, becoming the first coach in program history to surpass 100 wins. Miami has posted a MAC record of 59-21 (.738) under his guidance.

After guiding the program to a second-place finish in his inaugural 1994-95 season, Reppert directed Miami to three straight MAC Championships from 1996-98. He was honored by his MAC tennis coaching peers as MAC Coach of the Year three times in his first five seasons, including the 1998-99 campaign, when he guided the RedHawks to an undefeated league record.

Individually, Reppert has directed his players to all-MAC honors 15 times. His student-athletes also have performed well in the classroom, earning academic all-MAC and MAC Academic Honor Roll status 22 times during his 10 seasons. He also has demonstrated a knack for developing young talent, coaching former MAC Rookies of the Year Margit Berrios and Natalia Soetrisno.

Prior to Miami, Reppert served eight seasons as the head women's tennis coach at William and Mary of the Colonial Athletic Association, where his squads compiled a 110-55 record. His teams were ranked No. 1 in the East Region five consecutive years, and he was voted East Region Coach of the Year three times. During his fifth year with the Tribe, Reppert's squad earned an NCAA Tournament bid as the top-ranked team in the East Region.

Reppert also has been active administratively on the regional tennis scene, serving on the NCAA Regional Ranking Committee and the NCAA Championship Tournament Committee.

As a tennis director and professional, Reppert has extensive experience in the United States and abroad. His international credits include coaching the 1984 Yugoslavian Continental Cup and the 1983 Yugoslavian Federation Cup teams.

Reppert's background also includes coaching with tennis legends like Harry Hopman and training with many great juniors and professionals such as John McEnroe and Steffi Graf.

A former scholar-athlete at the University of Pittsburgh, he holds a bachelor's degree in English and a master's degree in English and teaching arts.

According to Reppert, his coaching philosophy puts more emphasis on the experience of competition than the results.

"My philosophy is to instill a genuine enthusiasm for competition in tennis, as well as in life," Reppert says. "The experience has to outweigh the results, but winning is always nice too."

Reppert resides in Oxford with his wife, Kris. They have three children, Carissa, Marlo and Trey.
