Anca Dumitrescu Position: Head Coach Alma Mater: Florida State '04

Anca Dumitrescu is in her second season as Head Women's Tennis Coach at Miami University. She was named to the position on August 23, 2010 after three years at Georgia Tech.

In her first year, she maintained the high standard of Miami Tennis, leading the RedHawks to a third straight Mid-American Conference regular-season title in undefeated fashion. For her efforts, she was voted MAC Coach of the Year by her peers.

A successful player and assistant coach, Dumitrescu was instrumental in three seasons as an assistant for the Yellow Jackets. In 2008, her first year on the staff, a school-record four Yellow Jackets received All-Atlantic Coast Conference accolades, while the team captured the ITA/National Indoor Team title. A pair of players -- Amanda McDowell and Irini Falconi -- each captured national singles championships and combined for a doubles title as well.

Dumitrescu played No. 1 singles for Florida State from 2001-04, earning top-60 national rankings in each of her four years in college. A two-time All-ACC honoree, she led the Seminoles to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances and participated in the NCAA Singles Championships on two occasions. She amassed multiple awards during her tenure at Florida State, including earning the 2003 Golden Nole Award as the Seminoles' Most Valuable Player and the 2004 ITA South Region Senior of the Year Award. She was also the recipient of the ITA South Region Arthur Ashe Sportsmanship Award in 2004.

Following her playing career at Florida State, Dumitrescu spent two years as a manager and graduate assistant coach at her alma mater before earning her first full-time coaching job at East Tennessee State, where she served as the assistant coach in 2007. Prior to college, Dumitrescu competed on the WTA Tour, reaching a career-high ranking of No. 514 in the world during the 1997-98 season. After qualifying for the French Open as a junior in 1998, the Romania native won the singles and doubles titles in the 1999 Romanian Junior Tennis Championships.

Dumitrescu not only excelled on the courts in Tallahassee, but also in the classroom, earning a dual degree in communications and multinational business as a Magna Cum Laude graduate in 2004 before earning her masters in communication from Florida State in 2006. A recipient of the ACC's Weaver-James-Corrigan Postgraduate Scholarship, Dumitrescu spent a year teaching public speaking at Florida State while completing her masters degree.

As an undergraduate, Dumitrescu completed an honors thesis regarding media propaganda in the Romanian press and was selected to present her thesis at the Southern States Communication Association Conference in 2004. In graduate school, she completed her Master's thesis on the representation of female athletes in the Romanian and American media and was selected to present her thesis at the National Communication Association Conference in 2006.

During the summers, Dumitrescu has worked as an instructor and coach at both collegiate tennis camps and private clubs.

Dumitrescu is fluent in Romanian, English, German and French and can also understand and speak Italian. Aside from tennis, she is active in the Atlanta community, placing second among all women at the 2008 Atlanta Marathon, winning the Tri-States Park Sprint Duathlon in 2007 and finishing fourth in the 24-30 age group in the 2006 Atlanta Marathon. She also posted a third-place finish in the Regional Collegiate Cycling Championships, held in Florida in 2006, and climbed Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in Europe (located in France), in 2005.
