Fifteen members of Miami University's senior and collegiate synchronized skating teams were honored at the U.S. National Championships in Massachusetts by the United States Figure Skating Association for their academic performance.
In all, the skating entity honored 236 skaters. The senior team received 10 honorees. Senior Kristin Abbott (Toledo, Ohio/Sylvania Southview), junior Jennifer Eng (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park and River Forest), senior Audrey Holloway (Metamora, Ill./Metamora Township), sophomore Jenna King (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove), senior Carrie Lullo (Palatine, Ill./Fremd), junior Lisa Marsocci (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown), junior Meredith Moran (Birmingham, Mich./Seaholm), sophomore Mikaela Mueller (Kalamazoo, Mich./Norrix), sophomore Becky Search (Elmhurst, Ill./York) and junior Ashley Thomas (Parma, Ohio/St. Joseph's Academy) were honored.
Five collegiate skaters received the honor, which required a minimum 3.20 cumulative grade-point average. Senior Kirsti Anderson (Oxford, Ohio/Talawanda), senior Lisa Headen (Columbia, Md./Howard), freshman Shannie Len (Bowie, Md./Bowie), freshman Sheri Prusak (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) and junior Allison Wolkin (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Shaker Heights) were honored.
The senior team competes next at the International Skating Union World Championships April 22-23 in Goteborg, Sweden. The team has scheduled a sendoff performance, free to the public, for April 14 from 5-6 p.m. at the Goggin Ice Arena. At that event, the team will skate the two routines it will be performing in Sweden, along with a presentation from head coach Vicki Korn.
The collegiate squad hosts the U.S. National Intercollegiate Championships April 9-10 at the Goggin. The 2005 Ice Show, featuring the collegiate team, is scheduled for two performances on April 22 and 23, also at the Goggin. While the intercollegiate meet admission is free, the ice show admission price is $6.
