COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Trailing by 1.84 points heading into the free skate program, Miami's Senior Synchronized Skating team almost pulled off the comeback but came up just short and finished second at the United States Synchronized Skating Championships at the World Arena in Colorado Springs, Colo. The second-place finish secured the RedHawks their second straight appearance at the ISU World Championships hosted next month in London, Ontario, Canada.

The RedHawks missed knocking off the Haydenettes despite winning the free skate program with a score of 130.31. Miami, which was trailing the Haydenettes by 1.84 points going into the free skate, was able to make up just 0.36 points. The Red and White finished the overall competition with a season-best score of 199.56. The Crystallettes (159.65) and the California Gold (158.06) completed the medal winners.

"The energy (our team) brought to the table was fabulous. They really were going after it," head coach Vicki Korn said. "As a coach, you can't ask for more than that."

The Senior Team will have a month to ready themselves for the ISU World Championships on March 30-April 1 in London, Ontario. The RedHawks will be pursuing the United States' first medal at the World Championships. Last year, Miami finished fourth overall.
