MILAN, Italy - The Miami University Senior Synchronized skating team finished second overall at the Spring Cup in Milan, Italy, after posting a second place finish in the free skate. Miami, which came into the free skate leading by a slim 1.33 points over Nexxice from Canada, was edged out by Team Berlin for the overall title - 153.77 to 150.92. Nexxice rounded out the top three with a score of 149.59.

"The team skated much better today," said head coach Vicki Korn. "As a team we keep making progress at every event we compete. To get ready for the U.S. Nationals in a couple weeks we will have to sit down, study our performance and understand the things that the judges didn't like and make the necessary changes. Regardless, I am happy with our team and am confident we will be ready to compete for a national championship."

The RedHawks compete at the United States Nationals on Feb. 22-26 where they will be one of the top teams favored to win the national championship.  Since the program earned varsity status in 1995-96, Miami has won one national championship in 1998-99. If the RedHawks finish first or second at the U.S. Nationals, they will qualify for their sixth World Championship appearance in 11 years.
