OXFORD, Ohio -Miami University's senior, junior and collegiate synchronized skating teams head to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to compete in the Midwestern Championships this weekend. Competition will take place on Friday, Jan. 29 and Saturday, Jan. 30.

The collegiate and senior teams are coming off of solid finishes at the Mid-America Championships that were held on Jan. 16-18. Miami's collegiate team took first in its division and bested its nearest competition by more than 10 points with its "Sex and the City" themed program. The RedHawks finished with a score of 84.91 while Michigan State finishing second with 73.27 points.

The RedHawk senior team also brought home a first-place finish with a short program skate to "Romeo and Juliet", posting a score of 63.09. On Sunday, the senior team captured second place, falling just short of the Crystalettes FSC with a 1940's-inspired skate.

All three synchronized skating teams will compete this weekend at the Midwestern/Pacific Coast Championships. In Iowa, Miami will face familiar foes such as the Crystallettes and Extreme skating teams.

After the Midwestern Championships, the senior and junior teams will prepare to leave U.S. soil for the Neuchatel Trophy in Neuchatel, Switzerland on Feb. 18-20, then all three teams return to action at the U.S. National Championships march 4-6 in Minneapolis, Minn.
