Miami Senior Team Returns to Competition at Mid-American Championships: Returning to the ice for its first competition since the Dr. Porter Classic on Dec. 4-5, also in Michigan, the Miami Senior Synchronized Skating squad competes in the Mid-American Championships in Fraser, Mich., a northern suburb of Detroit. Miami is entered in the senior short program, scheduled to begin at 5:16 p.m. on Saturday evening.

The RedHawks' Foes: Miami is one of nine teams in the senior short program, competing against outfits from the University of Michigan and Western Michigan University as well as six other local club teams. The Crystallettes, Hockettes, Ice Storm, Revolution, Team Del Sol and Team Elan.

Familiar Faces: A handful of current RedHawks are competing against their former club teams this weekend. Jeri Stroupe, Julie Walters, Meredith Moran and Jamie Dean were members of Team Elan, and Kristin Abbott is a former Hockette.

RedHawks Go Italian: Miami's short program this season is modeled after a scene from the movie The Italian Job called "The Chopper Chase." The routine involves 20 RedHawk skaters and lasts 2 1/2 minutes.

Last Year's Mid-American Championships: The RedHawks seek to defend their senior short program title this weekend after being one of three teams to earn three first-place ordinals last year, along with the Crystalettes and Team Elan. Miami won with four second-place ordinals and just two third-place marks backing up the three first-place selections.

Storylines:
1. After not competing for over a month, Miami's senior team enters a string of competitions occurring every other weekend until the end of February, culminating in the U.S. Senior Nationals in Massachusetts.

2. The collegiate team returns to competition next weekend at the Bronco Challenge cup at Western Michigan University. It is the team's last competition before the U.S. Senior Nationals at the end of February.
