ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Miami University Senior Synchronized Skating team set this season's tone by winning its division at the 7th annual Dr. Richard Porter Classic this weekend at the Ann Arbor Figure Skating Club. The Ann Arbor Figure Skating Club has donated the Porter Cup to the USFSA in honor of the founder of Synchronized Skating, Dr. Richard Porter.
The RedHawk skaters finished in front of seven other teams at the Porter Classic, four of which compete internationally. The only program at the Richard Porter Classic was the short program in which the Red and White were victorious.
"It was a good start to the season even though we weren't as crisp as we may have liked to been," says Vicki Korn, head coach of the Miami Synchronized Skating team. "We had some new skaters in the lineup and it was a good experience for them. It only gets tougher from here."
The Miami Senior Synchronized Skating team competes next when it travels to Fraser, Mich. On Jan. 19-20 for the Mid-American Competition. The collegiate team heads to East Lansing, Mich. next weekend, Dec. 8, for a team and singles competition.
