PROVIDENCE, R.I.--After performing their short programs on Thursday (Feb. 21), Miami University's senior and junior synchronized skating teams sit in second place in their respective divisions at the U.S. National Championships held at Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence, Rhode Island.

Miami's senior team, which were silver medalists at last year's national championship but finished second in the world to earn the first medal for a U.S. team at the event in U.S. Synchronized Skating history, posted a score of 70.34 for its short program and sit behind the defending national champion Haydenettes, who lead the senior competition with a score of 76.94.

The RedHawk junior team, which is vying for their first medal at the U.S. National Championships, also is in second place after the short program. Miami earned a score of 65.38 on Thursday evening and trail only the Chicago Jazz, who recorded a score of 67.16 in the short program.

All three RedHawk synchronized skating teams will compete in Saturday's free skate to round out their stints at the U.S. National Championships. Miami's collegiate team is seeking their fourth consecutive national title.
