OXFORD, OH - Miami University's women's swimming and diving team hosts two Mid-American Conference teams this weekend in action at the Nixon Aquatic Center. Coach Dave Jennings's RedHawks (4-1) swim against Toledo at 5 p.m. on Friday (Nov. 7) and meet Bowling Green on Saturday (Nov. 8) at 1 p.m..

Miami has started off the season very well, winning both of its MAC meets a week ago. Last Friday at Buffalo, Chelsey Bruington (Mission Viejo, CA) won three events and led the RedHawks to a 170-130 dual meet victory. Bruington claimed wins in the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.30), the 500 free (5:02.14), and led off the event-winning 800 freestyle relay team (7:48.76). Malarie Schmidt (Batavia, IL) won two individual events, taking the 100 backstroke (:57.90) and the 400 IM (4:30.69). Three other RedHawks were double winners. Kasey Carpenter (Cincinnati) continued her dominance in the 200 backstroke (2:03.51). Allison Stevens (Laurel, MD) captured first place in the 100 free. And Allison Way (Omaha, NE) won the 100 butterfly (:57.76). Carpenter, Stevens and Way combined with Bruington to win the 800 freestyle relay. The only other Miami individual victory was registered by Taylor Koplow (Carmel, IN) in the 200 butterfly (2:11.19).

In last Saturday's 189-11 victory at Akron, sophomore Megan Brunn (Mansfield) won four individual events. Among Brunn's four victories was a personal record 1:05.20 in the 100-yard breaststroke. Her other wins came in the 200 breaststroke (2:22.00) and the 200 individual medley (2:09.16), and she swam the second leg of the 200 medley relay. Two-event winners included seniors Malarie Schmidt who took first in the 100 backstroke and swam the opening leg of the 200 medley relay, Stevens (Laurel, MD) who won the 200 free and swam the first leg of the 400 freestyle relay, and Alyson Schmidt (Maineville) who anchored both the 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay.

Toledo (3-1, 2-0 MAC) defeated Ball State, 168-125, last Friday and then notched another conference win over Eastern Michigan last Saturday, 162-126.

In their first two MAC meets last weekend, Bowling Green has a 1-1 record, losing to Eastern Michigan by a score of 173-125, then topping Ball State, 160-140.

"We expect a very exciting meet against Toledo," said Jennings. "(Coach) Lars Jorgensen has done a remarkable job building his program. Toledo was the runner-up at last year's MAC Championship and they're certainly going to challenge again this season. Bowling Green is a very young team with lots of freshmen. They'll give us a good test, too."
