OXFORD, Ohio - Miami University's women's swimming and diving team opens its 2008-09 season Thursday afternoon (Oct. 23) with a triangular meet against Louisville and Purdue at the Corwin Nixon Aquatic Center in Miami's Recreational Sports Center. The first race begins at 5 p.m. There is no admission charge.

Coach Dave Jennings begins his 27th season as the RedHawks' coach. Under his tutelage, Miami has won 14 Mid-American Conference titles. His staff includes Head Diving Coach KongRong Li and assistant swimming coach Mark Davis.

Among the RedHawk student-athletes who Jennings will rely upon are freestyler Allison Stevens (Sr., Laurel, MD), butterfly specialist Nicole Roddenbery (So., Peachtree, GA), and medley standouts Malarie Schmidt (Sr., Batavia, IL) and Alyson Schmidt (Sr., Maineville, OH). Wisconsin transfer Kasey Carpenter (Jr., Cincinnati) also is expected to be a key competitor in the freestyle and the backstroke. The RedHawk divers are led by senior Melissa Roemmele (Lexington, KY).

"I expect our team to compete for the MAC championship," said Jennings. "We have an outstanding senior class, solid juniors and sophomores, and a talented incoming freshman class. I'm really looking forward to the 2008-09 season."
