OMAHA, Nebr. - Miami University sophomore Karen Frazier (Placerville, Calif.) has qualified for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials by posting a personal best time of 1:12.10 in the 100-meter breaststroke event at the Mutual of Omaha Swimvitational at Omaha's Qwest Center.

Swimming unattached, Frazier's time was :00.49 less than the qualifying time of 1:12.59 and just :02.50 behind the meet's best time of 1:09.60 by Jillian Tyler. Frazier now moves forward to the U.S. Trials on June 29-July 6, also held in Omaha. Only two of the approximately 100 swimmers who have qualified for the Trials in the 100 breaststroke will actually earn a berth on the U.S. Swimming Team.

Earlier this season, Frazier won the 100-yard breaststroke event at the Mid-American Conference meet, placed second in the 200 breaststroke and finished fourth in the 200 individual medley.

Frazier joins RedHawk men's swimming star Ryan McHugh (Sr., Sylvania, Ohio) at the Olympic Trials later this month. McHugh qualified for the Trials in the 100 freestyle event. A third future member of the RedHawk swimming program, 200-backstroker Kasey Carpenter, will also compete in Omaha. Carpenter, a transfer from the University of Wisconsin, will be eligible to compete for Miami's women's team in 2008-09.
