CLEVELAND - Senior Emily Nayes (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie), a vital cog in Miami's 12th Mid-American Conference Championship women's swimming and diving team, was named MAC Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week for the second time this season Wednesday, March 6 by the league office.
In the midst of the RedHawks' 723-688 win over Ohio, Nayes won two individual championships, met two NCAA qualifying standards and set three school records. She took the top prize in the 200 breaststroke, finishing in 2:18.45, and the 400 individual medley, touching the wall in 4:22.95. The latter time met the NCAA Provisional Qualifying Standard and broke the school record she set at last year's MAC Championships by almost a second.
In the 200 individual medley, Nayes' third-place time of 2:03.26 also made the NCAA "B" cut and lowered the school mark she set in that day's morning session by nearly a second.
Finally, she swam the second leg of the third-place medley relay, whose 3:48.71 clocking eclipsed the existing school standard by more than a second.
For her outstanding efforts, Nayes, a speech patholgy and audiology major with a 3.62 GPA, was named first-team all-MAC for the third straight year.
