Feb. 20, 2008

Miami University's women's swimming and diving team heads to Buffalo, N.Y. to compete in the Mid-American Conference Championships Feb. 20-23. The RedHawks have posted a 3-4 record against MAC teams in dual meets this season as they search for their 15th conference title under head coach Dave Jennings.

Sophomore Karen Frazier posted wins in four dual meets against MAC teams and she registered at least two wins in three of those four meets. Frazier swept the 100 and 200 breaststroke against Akron, Toledo and Ohio and she also notched wins in the 400 individual medley at Ohio and the 200 individual medley at Ball State. At the Miami Invitational in November, Frazier registered a NCAA "B" cut time of 2:16.09 in the 200 breaststroke. Frazier also set a pool, school and MAC record at the Miami Invitational in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:02.19.

A model of consistency this season, senior Kathryn Stephens comes into her final meet having tremendous success against MAC squads this season. Stephens posted wins as a part of a relay or individually in six of Miami's seven MAC dual meets. Stephens top meet was against Bowling Green where she swept the 100 and 200 butterfly events.

In the sprints, junior Allison Stevens had a great year earning top finishes in three MAC dual meet events. Stevens showed her versatility earning wins in the 50 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 100 butterfly and 200 butterfly this season.

Junior Malarie Schmidt had her top performance of the season in the RedHawks' final home meet of the season versus Eastern Michigan. Schmidt swept the backstroke events and touched the wall first in the 200 individual medley.

Freshman Miranda Kaltenborn has come on as of late in the distance freestyle events, posting wins in the 1000 freestyle in the RedHawks' last two meets against Eastern Michigan and at Ball State. Earlier in the MAC dual meet season, Kaltenborn registered a 1000 freestyle win against Akron and a 1650 freestyle win at Bowling Green.
