OXFORD, Ohio - Miami's women's swimming team looked incredibly sharp in its Mid-American Conference opener and first home meet Saturday afternoon at the Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center, whipping Ball State and Northern Illinois, 215-85 and 234-66, respectively.
In a truly dominating performance, Miami won the first 14 events before calling off the dogs in the last two. Six RedHawks were multiple winners on the afternoon, with seniors Kelly Janura (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) and Emily Nayes (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie), junior Heather Kelley (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota East), sophomore Amy Miranda (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart) and freshmen Trisha Lamb (Oregon, Ohio/Notre Dame) and Sara Gonso (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) all finishing first in two events apiece.
Janura claimed victory in the 50- (24.68) and 100-meter freestyle (53.10), Nayes the 100 (1:06.90) and 200 breaststroke (2:23.69), Kelley the 100 (58.37) and 200 butterfly (2:06.99), Miranda the 500 (5:07.58) and 1,650 free (17:20.41), Lamb the 100 (59.16) and 200 backstroke (2:05.40) and Gonso the one- (270.10) and three-meter board (247.70). Freshman Michelle Reynolds (Wyoming, Ohio/Wyoming) was the other individual winner for the RedHawks, as she took first in the 200 free (1:55.61).
The RedHawks cruised to a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:48.78) as well.
The team travels to Fairborn, Ohio on Friday, Nov. 9 to take on Wright State.
