AKRON, Ohio - Behind a four-event victory performance by sophomore Megan Brunn (Mansfield), Miami University's women's swimming and diving squad easily defeated host Akron, 189-111.

Coach Dave Jennings' RedHawks won six consecutive events in the early going to coast to their fourth victory in five dual meets and the second straight in Mid-American Conference competition. Miami won 11 of the 16 events and went 1-2-3 in three events.

Among Brunn's four victories was a personal record 1:05.20 in the 100-yard breaststroke. Her other wins came in the 200 breaststroke (2:22.00) and the 200 individual medley (2:09.16), and she swam the second leg of the 200 medley relay.

Two-event winners included seniors Malarie Schmidt (Batavia, IL) who took first in the 100 backstroke and swam the opening leg of the 200 medley relay, Allison Stevens (Laurel, MD) who won the 200 free and swam the first leg of the 400 freestyle relay, and Alyson Schmidt (Maineville) who anchored both the 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay.

Single winners included junior Kelsey Anagnos (St. Louis, MO) in the one-meter diving, senior Melissa Roemmele (Lexington, KY) in the three-meter diving, Jenn Flaherty in the 1000 freestyle, Kasey Carpenter (Cincinnati) in the 200 backstroke, Allison Way (Omaha, NE) who handled the third leg of the 200 medley relay, Maggie French (Dunwoody, GA) who swam the second leg of the 400 free relay, and Chelsey Bruington (Mission Viejo, CA) who took the third leg of the 400 free relay.

"The girls did a really good job to be ready to go after having to travel overnight from Buffalo to Akron," said Jennings. "This particular trip is the most difficult one of the year, but we bounced back very well."

Miami's women return to compete at home next Friday and Saturday to host Toledo (Nov. 7) and Bowling Green (Nov. 8) at the Nixon Aquatic Center.
