OXFORD, Ohio - Freshman Karen Frazier (Placerville, Calif.) set a new varsity record in the 100 breaststroke and the Miami University women's swimming and diving team (1-0; 1-0 MAC) won 11 events as it opened the 2006-07 season with a 186-112 dual meet win over the Akron Zips at the Nixon Aquatic Center. The victory extended Miami's streak of consecutive Mid-American Conference dual meet wins to 40.
In her first collegiate meet, Frazier clocked in with a varsity and freshman record time of 1:04.18 in the 100 breaststroke, breaking both Miami records held by four-time MAC Champion Amanda Furlano. Frazier broke the previous varsity record by two-hundredths of a second, besting Furlano's time of 1:04.20 set at the 1999 Miami Invitational. Frazier additionally reset Furlano's freshman record time of 1:04.52, set at the 1997 MAC meet, and she finished the meet with three individual wins in both breaststroke events and the 200 individual medley.
Miami opened the meet with a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay, as its "A" relay team clocked in with a time of 1:47.29. The RedHawks then made it back-to-back wins, as sophomore Jenn Flaherty (Scarborough, Maine) touched the wall with a first-place time of 10:21.60 in the 1,000 freestyle.
Sophomore Allison Stevens (Laurel, Md.) and senior Diana Zeleznikar (Rocky River, Ohio) paced a 1-2 Miami finish in the 200 freestyle, clocking in at 1:54.41 and 1:55.95, respectively, before Akron took home its first event win in the 100 backstroke. Despite the Akron win in the backstroke, Miami held a comfortable 48-26 lead after four events.
Frazier then clocked in with her first-place and varsity-record performance in the 100 breaststroke, extending Miami's advantage to 62-31 before Danielle Beland notched Akron's second win of the meet in the 200 butterfly. Miami responded, however, as senior Margaret Patrick (Marietta, Ga.) turned in a first-place time of 24.02 in the 50 freestyle and extended its lead to 87-44.

Senior Darcy Meek's (Wilton, Conn.) first-place finish in the 500 freestyle (5:14.69) effectively sealed Miami's win, as it gave the RedHawks a 149-77 edge. Miami then closed the meet with wins by Frazier in the 200 individual medley (2:09.00) and the "A" relay team in the 800 freestyle relay (7:50.21). Miami did not swim the final relay for points.
In the diving events, freshman Kelsey Anagnos (St. Louis, Mo.) won both the one-meter (265.12) and three-meter dives (249.07), sweeping the boards at her first collegiate meet.
Miami resumes MAC dual meet action tomorrow at 1 p.m. when it hosts the Buffalo Bulls at the Nixon Aquatic Center.
