YPSILANTI, Mich. - Freshman Karen Frazier and sophomore Jenn Flaherty finished as the conference runner-ups in the 200 breaststroke and 1,650 freestyle, respectively, as the Miami University women's swimming and diving team competed in the final day of the 2007 Mid-American Conference Swimming and Diving Championships. Miami, which placed five athletes on the all-conference squads, finished in third place with 596 points, while Eastern Michigan (655 points) repeated as the conference champion.

Frazier followed up her MAC title swim in the 100 breaststroke with a runner-up finish in the 200 breaststroke on Saturday night. As one of three RedHawks named to the all-MAC first team, Frazier touched the wall in 2:17.93, which was the second-fastest time in program history. Flaherty, who also was tabbed to the all-MAC first team, clocked in with a career-best time of 17:02.77 in the 1,650 freestyle, which was the sixth-fastest time in program history. Senior Ashley Seymour, who added a fifth-place finish in the 1,650 freestyle (17:22.88), was Miami's final all-MAC first-team honoree.

The 200 breaststroke saw four Miamians, including Frazier, place in the championship and consolation finals. Junior Kristen Bezier, who was tabbed to the all-MAC second team, finished seventh in the event (2:21.55), while senior Ashley Petak and sophomore Paige Iversen placed 11th (2:23.25) and 12th (2:23.58), respectively.

Three RedHawks scored in the 100 freestyle, led by senior Margaret Patrick's fifth-place finish (52.07). Sophomore Allison Stevens joined Patrick in the championship final with a sixth-place time of 52.08, while sophomore Jennifer Nemeth added a 16th-place finish (53.37).

 

 

Two Miamians placed in the championship final of the 200 backstroke, as sophomores Malarie Schmidt and Alyson Schmidt finished seventh (2:06.24) and eighth (2:08.19), respectively. Junior Kathryn Stephens, Miami's final all-MAC second team selection, added a fifth-place finish (2:05.83) in the 200 butterfly, while sophomore Maggie French placed 16th (17:55.41) in the 1,650 freestyle.

On the 3-meter board, sophomore Melissa Roemmele turned in a seventh-place score (252.25) and freshman Kelsey Anagnos added an eighth-place score (241.25).

Miami's final scoring event was the 400 freestyle relay, where it finished third with a time of 3:28.11.
