INDIANAPOLIS - Miami's women's swimming and diving team took third with 577.50 points Saturday, Feb. 16 at the Midwest Conference Classic in Indianapolis, Ind., while the men's squad came in sixth with a score of 287.50. Seniors Hillary Mason (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls) and Megan Wyatt (Barrington, R.I./Barrington) became the RedHawks' second and third winners at the meet, taking top honors in the 1,650 freestyle and 200 breaststroke, respectively.

Mason's time of 17:27.32 was almost 23 seconds faster than that of the runner-up, while Wyatt's 2:24.44 clocking outdistanced the competition by almost three seconds.

Runner-up performances on Day Three came from junior Sarah Brodbeck (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville North), in the 200 back (2:10.32), freshman Lauren Sikes (Nashville, Tenn./Christ Presbyterian Academy), in the 200 butterfly (2:06.83), and the 400 free relay team of junior Kelly Sexton (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills), junior Nicole Ocepek (Orange Park, Fla./Fairfield), freshman Morgan Kautz (Long Grove, Ill./Stevenson) and Brodbeck, which touched the wall in 3:37.41.

Sexton also placed third in the 200 back (2:10.73), while freshman Christen Fout (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Hawken School) took third in the 200 fly (2:11.90).

The men's top finisher was senior Adam Clementi (Palatine, Ill./St. Viator), who claimed second in the 100 free in a time of 46.42. Freshmen Dan Guibord (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) and Dustin Snow (Dublin, Ohio/St. Charles) finished fourth in the 1,650 free (16:26.68) and 200 breast (2:11.76), respectively.

 

 

Both teams now have two weeks to train for the Mid-American Conference Championships. The women's meet is Feb. 28-March 2 at Ypsilanti, Mich., while the men will be in Athens, Ohio from March 7-9.
