A former assistant coach at Connecticut College, Ed Edson enters his second season as an assistant with the RedHawks. Edson serves as Miami's recruiting coordinator and also assists with all aspects of the team including program development, on-deck training and strength training.
In his first season as at Miami, Edson helped the RedHawks post their 13th consecutive top-two conference finish, as they were only 11 points shy of first place at the 2006 Mid-American Conference Swimming and Diving Championships. Six of Edson's swimmers were tabbed to the all-conference squad, including first-team honoree and two-time MAC Champion Kristen Bezier.
Miami also stood out academically in Edson's first season, as it finished with the 14th-highest grade-point average nationally (3.34) for a Division I women's program. The RedHawks placed three swimmers on the all-MAC academic team, while Laura Armbruster earned ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District IV honors.
Prior to Miami, Edson spent two seasons (2003-2005) as an assistant at Connecticut College. The 2005 campaign was its best season under Edson's watch, as the women's team broke nine school records en route to a fifth-place finish in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC). The men also posted their highest conference finish in school history and set 10 school records.
Edson additionally mentored two NCAA All-Americans and Connecticut College's first national champion, Kate Kovenock. An 11-time All-American, Kovenock won the 2004 NCAA Division III National Championship in the 50-yard freestyle, and she followed in 2005 by finishing as the national runner-up in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle.
In addition to his assistant coaching experience, Edson has worked numerous swimming camps including the Total Performance Swim Camp, the Harvard Technique Camp and the Auburn Tiger Swim Camp.
Edson swam collegiately at Tufts University where he was voted two-time team MVP. A team captain and an Academic All-America selection in 2003, Edson held three college records and was a NCAA "B" relay qualifier. Edson graduated from Tufts in 2003 with a degree in economics.
