OXFORD, Ohio (April 29)--A three-run homer in the fourth inning of Miami's opening game of a double-header against Akron Saturday spelled trouble for the RedHawks as Miami went on to drop an 8-2 decision in the opening game and lost the nightcap 7-1.

The RedHawks pulled to within one in the sixth inning of the first game when Nicki Pelfrey scored Amy Dudley and Kristina Mortaloni knocked in Keri Brisnehan on a single. The Zips, however, rebounded in the top of the seventh to score five more runs to make the final score 8-2.

Lisa Keenan earned the win in the circle for the Zips, while Miami's Amber Arnold picked up the loss.

In the second game, Akron scored two runs in the first inning and two runs in the second to jump out to a 4-0 lead. Miami placed its first run on the board when Pelfrey singled to knock in Brisnehan. The Zips went on to score three more runs to end the game with a 7-1 tally.

Serell Watson earned the win for Akron, while Keenan picked up the save. Tennille Bishop earned the loss for the RedHawks.

Dudley was the lone RedHawk with a multiple-hit game, going 2-for-3 in game two.

Miami (16-27; 5-12 MAC) is now mathematically eliminated from the Mid-American Conference Tournament. Akron improves to 24-18 overall and 9-7 in the MAC.

The RedHawk will end the season in a three-game series at Marshall next weekend.
