OXFORD, Ohio (April 22)--Miami softball twins Abbey and Amber Arnold produced a true twinbill today. Pitching complete games, the sister act picked up two wins in the double-header portion of Miami's three-game series with Ohio University. Abbey earned a thrilling 5-4 come-from-behind win to get things started, while Amber rounded out the day's contests with a 5-3 triumph. Friday's single-game, which was postponed to Saturday due to rain, was made-up prior to today's double-header. The Bobcats took the day's first game 10-3.
In addition to the Arnold twins' impressive twinbill wins in the circle, Mary Neal had an outstanding day at the plate. Neal batted .500 over the three games, scoring five runs, going 4-for-4 in stolen bases and recording one RBI.
OHIO 10, MIAMI 3
Ohio took a 6-0 lead after three complete innings before Miami put points on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring two runs. Ohio then went on a tacked on four more runs in the top of the sixth to increase their lead 10-2. Miami scored its final run in the bottom of the sixth to make the final tally 10-3 in favor of the Bobcats.
Angie Gerber and Laura Fulton each went 2-for-3, while Nicki Pelfrey and Keri Brisnehan each collected two hits in four at-bats. Fulton tallied one run and one RBI, and Pelfrey also knocked in a run.
MIAMI 5, OHIO 4
A three-run rally in the fifth inning that was capped off by a Fulton two-run single, tied the game 4-4 and sparked the RedHawk offense. After a scoreless sixth inning, Miami's Neal singled to lead off the bottom of the seventh inning. Neal stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch to place herself in prime scoring position. With bases loaded and one out just four batters later, Chrissy Martini belted a single to score Neal and end the game with the 5-4 win.
Neal collected three hits in four attempts and was 3-for-3 in stolen bases to lift the RedHawks to their first win of the week. Amber Arnold picked up the first win of the twinbill, giving up four runs off six hits and striking out seven batters.
MIAMI 5, OHIO 3
The RedHawks jumped out to a 2-1 lead after two innings, but Ohio put together a two-run rally in the fourth inning to gain a 3-2 edge over the Hawks. However, Miami put the bats on the balls in the fifth inning, scoring three runs and claiming a 5-3 win over the Bobcats.
Abbey Arnold won the battle in the circle, giving up two earned runs off five hits. Pelfrey collected two runs, one hit and one RBI, while Kristina Mortaloni posted two RBIs, off one hit to lead the RedHawks.
