KENT, Ohio (April 15, 2000) - Miami's softball team played on both ends of the spectrum in a double-header with Kent Saturday afternoon, winning 3-1 in the opener and tumbling 8-0 in the final game.

Nicki Pelfrey (Fremont, Ohio/Fremont Ross) lifted Miami to the 3-1 win, hitting a three-run blast in the fifth inning to help the RedHawks overcome a 1-0 deficit. The home run, which was Pelfrey's fifth of the season, scored Mary Neal (Kirklin, Ind./Clinton Central) and Erin Taylor (Van Nuys, Calif./Chaminade College Prep). Abbey Arnold (Dana Point, Calif./St. Margaret's) earned her fifth win of the year in the circle, strking out four batters.

Aided by a pair of RedHawk errors and three walks in the first inning, Kent jumped all over Miami in the day's second game. The Flashes built up a 7-0 lead by the end of the first inning and finished the RedHawks via the mercy rule with another run in the fifth. Amber Arnold (Dana Point, Calif./St. Margaret's) took the loss for the RedHawks, dropping to 7-8 on the season. Six of the Golden Flash runs were unearned.

With the split, Miami advanced its record to 13-20 overall and 2-5 in the MAC. Kent moved to 9-20 overall and 3-5 in league play. The RedHawks take to the field again on April 18, when they play a doubleheader at Bowling Green.
