KENT, Ohio (April 14, 2000) - Miami University's softball team fell to 1-4 in the Mid-American Conference Friday afternoon, dropping a 2-1 decision at Kent State University.

Miami scored in the first inning when a Chrissy Martini (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) sacrifice fly scored Nicki Pelfrey (Fremont, Ohio/Fremont Ross), but the RedHawks were unable to cross the plate again. Kent knotted the score at the bottom of the first and tallied the game-winning run in the fifth inning.

Amber Arnold (Dana Point, Calif./St. Margaret's) absorbed the loss for Miami, falling to 7-7 on the season. The sophomore threw eight strikeouts while going the distance. Keri Brisnehan (Englewood, Colo./Cherry Creek) led Miami at the plate, batting two-for-three on the day.

Kent's Nicole Karasek earned the win, holding Miami to just four hits on the afternoon. The Flashes moved to 8-19 overall and 2-4 in the MAC.

Miami, which fell to 12-19 on the season, meets Kent again tomorrow in a double-header that begins at 1 p.m.
