OXFORD, Ohio - Junior pitcher Jackie Poggendorf (Phoenix, Ariz./Shadow Mountain) and sophomore left fielder Kristen Hays (Phoenix, Ariz./Shadow Mountain) have been named the Mid-American Conference East Division's Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively, the league office announced today. It is Poggendorf's fifth career honor, while Hays earns the award for the first time.

Poggendorf made three starts in four games this week, recording three CG's, and establishing a 3-0 record and 1.47 ERA. She hurled a pair of three-hitters to begin and end the week, with a 12-strikeout, zero walk performance in the middle. Overall, Poggendorf struck out 27 batters, compared to two walks, in 19 innings of work for Miami.

Hays hit .545 (6-11) for the week with a team-high seven RBIs, four runs and a pair of doubles. The highlight of her week was a 3-for-3 effort against Akron on Sunday. Hays had two doubles, two runs and three RBIs on the day, while also taking away a Zip home run with a catch at the fence in the sixth inning of a one-run game. The week's effort raised her batting average 49 points, from .264 to .313.

The duo joins sophomore pitcher Courtney Salmon (Auburn, Wa./Auburn) as honored RedHawks this season. Salmon was selected as the MAC East Division Pitcher of the Week March 29.

The RedHawks (13-16, 6-1 MAC) went 4-0 on the week, picking up a 13-1 victory at Toledo on Wednesday and sweeping Akron in a three-game series at home over the weekend. The Red and White is riding a six-game winning streak into this week's action, and currently sit in a first-place tie in the MAC East Division standings with Marshall (24-15, 6-1 MAC).

Miami returns to action with a doubleheader at Western Michigan on Wednesday (2 p.m.) before hosting Eastern Michigan for two games on Friday and a single game on Saturday at the Miami Softball Field. Action kicks off at 1 p.m. on both days.
