CLEVELAND - After posting a 1.12 earned-run average in five games and helping the RedHawk softball team to a 3-2 record last week, Miami University freshman Meredith Linch has been tabbed as the Mid-American Conference East Division Pitcher of the Week. It is Linch's second career weekly conference honor.

As the workhorse on the Miami pitching staff, Linch compiled a 1.12 ERA in 25.0 innings last week, helping Miami (11-25-1; 2-2 MAC) to wins over Eastern Kentucky, Akron and Ohio. For the week, Linch allowed only four earned runs, struck out 15 batters and limited opponents to a .155 batting average. Speaking to her dominant performance in the circle, Linch faced 92 batters during the week and allowed only one extra-base hit.

Linch began the week by tossing five scoreless relief innings against Eastern Kentucky, as she scattered two hits and picked up the victory in Miami's 2-1 midweek win. After taking over for starter Shalise Lugo in the second inning, Linch worked out of a no-out, bases-loaded jam and held the Colonels scoreless over the final five innings, helping the RedHawks notch their first home win at the new $4.5 million Miami Softball Stadium.

Even more impressive on Miami's conference-opening weekend, Linch appeared in all four games and compiled a 1.40 ERA in 20.0 innings. Linch opened the weekend by tossing 6.1 innings in a 4-3 loss to Akron, which included six no-hit innings, and followed by closing out Miami's 5-0 win over Akron with strike outs of the final two batters. Linch then started both games against Ohio, going 6.0 innings and allowing two earned runs in Saturday's 2-1 loss before tossing a complete-game three-hitter in Miami's 1-0 win on Sunday. In Miami's one-run victory, Linch scattered three singles and retired 14 batters in a row in the second through sixth innings.

Linch is one of three Miamians to earn weekly MAC honors this season, as sophomore Alexis Javier (Feb. 14) and freshman Briana Burke (Feb. 27) have take home MAC East Player of the Week honors.

Miami hosts Marshall in a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday beginning at 3 p.m. before welcoming Northern Illinois (April 6) and Western Michigan (April 7-8) in MAC action. All six games are available on GAMETRACKER.
