OXFORD, Ohio (April 3) - Ohio States Katie Chain threw the perfect game as Miami Universitys softball team was upended by the Buckeyes 8-0 in five innings. Miami falls to 12-17 overall, while OSU improves to 26-11.
Miami gave up four runs in the first inning. Ohio States Wendy Allen hit a triple to score Anna Smith. Allen then scored off a single by Kristine Himes. With two runners on base, a crucial throwing error by Kristina Mortaloni allowed two more Buckeye runs.
OSU tallied its fifth run off a solo home by Sarah West. The Buckeyes recorded their final three runs in the fourth inning.
Chain earned her 12th win of the season for the Buckeyes, striking out nine of the 15 batters she faced.
Amber Arnold picked up the loss in the circle to move to 7-7 on the season. She gave up four runs off three hits, walked one and struck out one in 0.1 innings of work. Abbey Arnold came in and threw 4.2 innings, giving up four runs off three hits, walking three and striking out two.
Miami faces its toughest conference stretch starting this weekend. The RedHawks will play seven MAC contests in five days, including three doubleheaders. Miami begins a three-game series at Akron with a single game at 3 p.m. Friday. The two teams will clash in a double header at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Sunday, Miami travels to Kent State for a noon double-dip. The RedHawks return home next Tuesday for a doubleheader with Marshall. Game time is 2:30 p.m.
