After tying the first game 3-3 in the sixth inning, the Red and White scored the go-ahead run in the seventh inning. However, Butler answered back by tying the game in the bottom of the inning to send the game into extra innings. With the international tie-breaker rule in effect, the Erin Kucera knocked in Keri Brisnehan for the game-winning run on a single.
Erin Taylor cranked a two-RBI double in the second inning to score the 'Hawks first two runs of the game. She went 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Abbey Arnold pitched 6.2 innings and her twin sister Amber Arnold entered the game in the middle of the seventh inning to pick up the win.
Amber also hurled all seven innings of the second game, improving her overall record to 7-6 and picking up her third solo shutout of the season.
Miami put together a three-run inning in the top of the third with Keri Brisnehan knocking in two of the three runs. Brisnehan also knocked in Miami's fourth run in the fifth inning, accounting for all three of Miami's RBIs. Mary Neal went 1-for-2 at the plate and scored two runs for Miami.
The RedHawks will resume conference play at 2 p.m. (CST) Friday at Ball State and at 1 p.m. Saturday at Toledo. Both games are double-headers.
