COLUMBUS, Ohio (March 29)- Laura Fulton scored Miami's game-winning run with a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to top Ohio State 6-5 in the first game of a double-header. The win snapped the 'Hawks four-game losing skid and was the fourth extra inning game for Miami in its last five outings. Ohio State captured the nightcap, 2-1.

With a 2-0 Miami lead going into the bottom of the fourth inning, Ohio State's Rogeanna Hottinger nailed a grand slam to give the Buckeyes a 4-2 advantage. Ohio State scored another run in the fifth inning, but the 'Hawks put together a three-run rally in the seventh inning, capped off by Kristina Mortaloni's two-run homer, to tie the score and send the game into extra innings.

Tyra Bowling earned her first career win, pitching the final three innings. She gave up only one hit in the nine batters she faced.

Miami out-hit the Buckeyes in the first game, 15-6, with six 'Hawks tallying two hits apiece. Fulton and Nicki Pelfrey each went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI, while Mortaloni was 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs. Keri Brisnehan went 2-for-5 and scored a run, and Angie Gerber tallied two hits and an RBI in five at-bats.

In the second game, Miami opened up a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Buckeyes answered right back with two runs in the bottom of the inning. The 2-1 scored ended up being the final tally after going five and a half scoreless innings to round out the game. Pelfrey knocked in Mary Neal in the first inning on a single for her lone hit of the game. Pelfrey, Gerber and Chrissy Martini recorded Miami's three hits.

Abbey Arnold picked up the loss in the circle, pitching six innings and giving up two runs off five hits. She threw six strikeouts.

Miami, which moved to 9-15 on the season, begins conference play in their home openers this weekend. The RedHawks host Northern Illinois in a double-header beginning at 2 p.m. on Friday, and then host Western Michigan on a Saturday afternoon double-dip slatted for 1 p.m.
