OXFORD - Miami Softball opens the 2008 conference season with a double header against the Akron Zips. The first game is slated to start at 1:00 p.m.
Akron is coming off a midweek split with Youngstown State, making their record 10-16. Lisa McLean is leading the Zips offensively, batting .372. Pitcher Christina Swierz has seen the most time on the mound for Akron, and has 10 wins to her name so far this season. Akron leads the all-time series against Miami, 37-21, with Miami taking the last contest, 5-0.
Miami comes into Friday's doubleheader 8-14. Halle Popson enters Mid-American Conference play batting .362, while MAC East Player of the Week Christine Bills and freshman Meghan Mawn are batting .303 and .302 respectively. Senior Breanna Robinson continues to be an offensive force to be reckoned with, already producing 24 RBIs.
Following Friday's doubleheader against Akron, the RedHawks will host the Ohio University Bobcats Saturday at 2:00 p.m. and again Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
