TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 17) - Angie Gerber stepped in as a pinch-hitter in the fifth
inning and nailed a double that scored Mary Neal, who was pinch-running for
Chrissy Martini, to score the game-winning run in the RedHawks' opening
game in the Florida State Invitational. Miami (8-12) knocked off Troy
State in the first game, 2-1. The 'Hawks turned around a dropped a
hard-fought 1-0 decision to Kansas in eight innings. Miami rounded out the
day with a 8-0 loss in six innings to Florida State.
Abbey Arnold picked up her fourth win of the season against the Lady
Trojans, pitching seven innings and throwing seven strikeouts. Keri
Brisnehan, Miami's lead-off hitter, started off the game with at hit.
Nicki Pelfrey drove in Brisnehan to give Miami the 1-0 lead. However, the
Lady Trojans tied the game in the top of the second until Geber's
game-winning RBI.
In the second game, Amber Arnold threw all eight innings, hurling 12
strikeouts. Martini and Laura Fulton were the lone RedHawks to collect
hits against the Jayhawks.
Florida State opened up a 4-0 lead at the end of three innings in Miami's
third game, and scored one run in the fifth and three in the sixth to earn
the 8-0, six-inning triumph. Pelfrey tagged the 'Hawks lone hit of the game.
